Tottenham Get Huge Boost From Man Utd in Bryan Mbeumo Race

Manchester United have given Tottenham Hotspur a huge boost in the race to sign Brentford striker Bryan Mbeumo.

Initially, the Red Devils were the overwhelming favourites to sign Mbeumo. However, Thomas Frank’s switch from Brentford to Tottenham has seen Spurs join the race.

Despite the obvious Thomas Frank appeal, Bryan Mbeumo reportedly wants a move to Man Utd this summer. The Red Devils should not have trouble agreeing personal terms with Mbeumo. So, they simply need to table an offer big enough to convince the Bees.

Man Utd Hand Tottenham a Huge Boost in Bryan Mbeumo Pursuit

According to the Manchester Evening News, Brentford want a guaranteed £60million for the Cameroonian forward. Add-ons are likely to push the total transfer fee a lot higher.

After seeing Chelsea sign Joao Pedro for £60million, United trigger Matheus Cunha’s £62.5million clause, and Anthony Elanga draw a £55million bid from Newcastle United, Brentford are holding firm. Man Utd very much want to bring Mbeumo to Old Trafford, but they have not yet managed to win Brentford over. As per the aforementioned report, the Mancunians have seen two of their bids turned down by Brentford.

Considering how much demand Mbeumo has generated, Brentford expected Man Utd to pounce and close the deal as soon as possible. However, that has not been the case, as United continue to look for ways to bring the price down.

As per journalist Sam Tabuteau, United’s inability to close the deal has started to frustrate Mbeumo and Brentford. If Man Utd, who have an edge in the race, do not find a solution quickly, it could open the door for Spurs to prize Mbeumo away.

With Spurs, Mbeumo would not only get a chance to play under Thomas Frank, but also participate in the Champions League. Additionally, with Tottenham likely to sell Heung-min Son after pre-season, there would be a vacancy for a new team leader. If he can hit the ground running, Mbeumo could become the main man in North London.

Ex-Man Utd Star Ben Foster Urges Bryan Mbeumo to Join Spurs

Last month, former Man Utd player Ben Foster discussed which club Bryan Mbeumo should join this summer. Surprisingly, Foster backed him to join Tottenham, as he would get more chances to grow.

On his Fozcast podcast, Foster said (via The Mirror):

I would say that if you want to be part of something that’s going to make you a better footballer and work hard, and be part of a team, then go to Spurs with Thomas Frank.

If you are happy picking up your wages knowing that there’s going to be an awful lot more pressure, a lot more eyes on you, a lot more judgment and failure is just part of what they do, then you’d go to Manchester United.

Mbeumo has played 242 games for Brentford since joining in 2019. He has scored 70 goals and provided 51 assists.
