The latest Trent Alexander-Arnold injury update has confirmed the defender’s thigh problem is not as bad as first feared. 

Alexander-Arnold had to be substituted in the 70th minute of the 2-0 Premier League win against Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon.

Originally, the diagnosis confirmed by Liverpool was that the 26-year-old had sustained a knee injury. Now, it is likely that TAA will miss just a few days of action.

The news will come as a huge relief to everyone associated with the Merseysiders. In particular manager Arne Slot – who is set to leave the England defender out of his matchday squad to play Tottenham.

On Thursday, the two sides go toe-to-toe in the EFL Cup semi-final 2nd leg at Anfield. The Lilywhites hold a slender 1-0 lead from the 1st leg played on January 8.

The fixtures come thick and fast for the Reds after Thursday’s EFL Cup clash. On the weekend, Arne Slot’s side are back in cup action when they travel to Plymouth.

On February 12, the rearranged Merseyside Derby finally goes ahead. If Slot’s side win at Goodison Park, they’ll go nine points clear at the top of the table.

After that, the league leaders play Wolves, Manchester City and Newcastle before the month’s end. As expected, TAA is only set to miss the Spurs game and could well be rested for the cup clash against the Pilgrims.

Questions still surround Alexander-Arnold’s long-term future at Anfield. The 26-year-old’s contract is up in the summer and Real Madrid are reportedly interested.
