Andy Lee Confirms Tyson Fury Corner Arrangements For Usyk Rematch

Boxing fans are in for an early Christmas treat, as the Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk rematch goes down on December 21st in Saudi Arabia.

Usyk of course won the first fight via split decision, with an immediate rematch clause triggered by Team Fury. This means that His Excellency Turki Alalshikh will once again host a star-studded night of professional boxing in Riyadh just days before Christmas Day.

Following the first fight back in May, the corner team of Tyson Fury received a lot of criticism. Many fans believed there were far too many voices and contrasting advice from Fury’s corner team, which could have been one reason for the fight going against ‘The Gypsy King’.

On the night, head coach SugarHill Steward was giving Fury instructions, as was Andy Lee and big John Fury. Three different voices in one corner is far from ideal for a boxer trying to take on board too much information at once, whilst in the midst of the biggest fight of his life.

Big John Fury, the father of Tyson, seemed to receive the most criticism for his advice in-between rounds in the Tyson Fury corner. However, assistant trainer to Tyson Fury, Andy Lee, has confirmed this won’t be the case for the rematch on December 21st.

SugarHill Steward Only Voice In Fury Corner On December 21st

Andy Lee has confirmed in a recent interview with BoxingScene that the only voice in Tyson Fury’s corner for the Oleksandr Usyk rematch will be that of SugarHill Steward.

The American boxing coach was first brought in by ‘The Gypsy King’ for his rematch bout with Deontay Wilder back in February 2020. Given his performance on that night, Steward has been Fury’s head coach ever since for his last five fights as well.

For the rematch with Oleksandr Usyk, which could be career defining, it has been revealed that SugarHill will be the one and only voice speaking to Fury and giving him advice in-between rounds in the corner.

“There were a lot of voices in the corner – we were in a dire situation, and had to pull him out of it. I was told he was two rounds down so I had to speak up about that,” said Andy Lee on the Tyson Fury corner situation for the first Usyk fight back in May.

“His dad was giving him great advice, I thought, but he’s also a dad, and that’s his son. Sugar should have been the only voice, and he will be the only voice in the next fight,” added the former world super-middleweight champion turned boxing trainer.

Time will tell whether or not this makes a difference in the ring for Fury, who goes into the Usyk rematch as a slight underdog with the best boxing betting sites in the UK. Let’s hope the fight lives up to our expectations once again!
