American Brian Campbell clinched his first PGA Tour title at the Mexico Open in lucky circumstances after an incredible shot which was described as the ‘bounce of a career’.
Campbell went to a sudden-death playoff with Aldrich Potgieter and they were locked on -20 on the second hole.
The 31-year-old looked to slice his tee shot into the hazard but fortune was on his side as he won his first PGA Tour sanctioned event at the 187th attempt.

Many golf stars have had a lucky bounce on occasion. However, very few have had the fortune to win a tournament because of it.
This was the case for Brian Campbell who won the Mexico Open thanks to a lucky bounce when he horribly sliced his tee shot on the second playoff hole.
The shot from Campbell at the Mexico Open appeared to be heading into the hazard, only to knock off a tree and bounce back into play.
“That was the bounce of a career,” NBC’s Notah Begay III reacted on commentary.
Campbell would go on to birdie the hole and win the tournament ahead of opponent Aldrich Potgieter.
After sealing the win, Campbell said as per Golf.com: “I mean you’ve got to get those breaks sometimes.
“Unfortunately I hit a really bad tee shot there. I caught the tree, kept it in play and got ourselves in a good position to keep the pressure on. I was just so happy that I was able to kind of stay in it to the end.”
By winning the Mexico Open, Campbell clinched a winner’s purse of $1.26m.
Campbell will hope the trees at Augusta will provide him as much luck as the Mexico Open. The American sealed a spot at The Masters with his victory.
