Disgruntled West Brom fans made their voices heard against boss Ryan Mason at the King Power Stadium after the club broke an unwanted 100-year record.
The Baggies were on the brink of a point at Leicester on Monday before Abdul Fatawu’s last-gasp strike sealed a 2-1 win for the hosts.
It was cruel on the visitors who had dominated for long periods, with Leicester goalkeeper Jakub Stolarczyk in imperious form throughout.
However, another away defeat means West Brom have now lost 10 consecutive matches on the road – a record that stretches back 100 years.
After West Brom chairman Shilen Patel jetted in from Florida to be in attendance, Mason’s job is under huge threat as they sit in 18th.
He’s the firm favourite in the Championship sack race, with the pressure lifted from the shoulders of Leicester’s Marti Cifuentes.
Fans Call For Ryan Mason Dismissal
Those who made the relatively short trip on a bitterly cold evening were vocal in their disapproval towards Mason and the club’s league position.
‘We want Mason out’ echoed around the stadium as fans headed for the exit after Fatawu’s late heartbreak.
While some of the West Brom players applauded the travelling fans, Mason headed straight down the tunnel at full-time.
He was later asked in his press conference about the chants for his departure, and replied: “I thought the fans were incredible. They were amazing.
“We’ve lost the game at the end. Frustrations… I accept that, that’s normal.
“For 94 minutes, they (the fans) were immense, they were amazing. They supported the team, and they certainly helped us.
“Devastated that they’re going home with nothing because I think the overall performance and everyone representing West Bromwich Albion today deserved so much more.”
West Bromwich Albion were play-off hopefuls at the beginning of the season, but they now sit 10 points adrift of the top six and seven above the bottom three in a hugely competitive Championship.
Who Could Replace Ryan Mason At West Brom?
Michael Carrick currently heads the names in the next West Brom manager betting market.
The former Manchester United midfielder was sacked at the end of last season following a 10th-place finish with Middlesbrough.
His overall record with the club was impressive, earning a 46.32% win ratio over 136 games in charge.
Carrick is also one of the names in contention to take over at Manchester United on an interim basis until the end of the season while the club searches for a long-term successor.
Former boss Carlos Corberan remains an option and would prove a popular choice, having finished fifth in the 2023/24 campaign.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Russell Martin are two other names who are currently out of work.
