West Brom are attempting to sign Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson after being sucked into a relegation scrap.
The Baggies suffered a humiliating 5-0 home defeat against Norwich on Tuesday to cast huge doubts over new boss Eric Ramsay.
Ramsay replaced Ryan Mason earlier this month from the MLS side Minnesota United, but has lost his first two games in charge.
Their position in the Championship is growing increasingly precarious, and they currently sit just three points above the drop zone.
Despite his short stint in charge, Ramsay is already among the favourites in the Championship sack race.

According to Football League World, Ramsay wants to bolster his goalkeeping department with the arrival of Patterson on loan until the end of the season.
Patterson was integral to Sunderland’s promotion to the Premier League last season but has yet to make a league appearance this campaign following the arrival of Robin Roefs.
Josh Griffiths has been promoted to West Brom’s main choice in goal this season following four loan spells, most recently with Bristol Rovers.
But Ramsay wants to add a keeper with more experience to his ranks and help bring calmness to the backline.
West Brom’s 43 goals conceded this season is the second worst in the league behind rock-bottom Sheffield Wednesday.
Patterson was Sunderland’s first-choice stopper for three years in the Championship and has made over 150 senior appearances for the Black Cats.
Sunderland may want to bring in another back-up stopper before allowing Patterson to leave, or promote third-choice stopper Simon Moore to the substitute bench.
