Luka Jovic Linked With West Ham United

Eager to solve their goal-scoring problem, West Ham United could turn to former Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic.

Jovic is currently a free agent after his AC Milan contract ended on June 30.

Graham Potter’s West Ham United are in the market for a new striker. They currently have just one recognised striker in the team, Niclas Fullkrug.

Michail Antonio, who made his long-awaited return to football after a horrific car accident, saw his contract run out on June 30. West Ham have not yet confirmed his departure, but an extension seems unlikely.

West Ham Could Make a Move for Real Madrid Man Luka Jovic

West Ham have been scouring the market for a low-cost centre-forward option, and Luka Jovic has emerged as a potential candidate. This is not the first time that Jovic has attracted West Ham’s attention.

In January 2019, the Hammers reportedly wanted to sign Jovic on loan from Real Madrid. Then in 2020, Jovic links reappeared as they were searching for a strike partner for Sebastien Haller. This time, however, the move looks more likely.

After failing to capitalise on his time at Real Madrid, Jovic lost his prominence in European football. He spent time at Fiorentina and then AC Milan, but his performances were not up to the mark. Last year, Jovic only played 17 games for Milan, scoring 4 goals.

The 27-year-old is eager to turn a page and rediscover the form that secured a £60 million move to Real Madrid. A move to West Ham appears lucrative to the striker.

For the Londoners, who are cautious about PSR constraints, Jovic appears as a low-risk, high-reward option. He could join for free and settle for a modest salary. Like Milan, West Ham could also table a two-year contract and reserve the option to extend.

Luka Jovic Is a Tactical Fit for Graham Potter

Luka Jovic could thrive in Graham Potter’s system. The former Chelsea boss wants a versatile, dynamic system. Luka Jovic, who earned praise from the great Lothar Matthaus for his pace, movement, and mentality, could be an excellent addition.

The Serbian can play on the left and down the middle as a centre-forward or second-striker. He is strong in duels and does not hesitate to put in a shift. For a team hoping to climb back up the rankings, Jovic’s tenacity may come in handy. To top it off, Jovic has experience playing as a rotational striker, so he could also play a supporting role if needed.

Jovic played his best football at Frankfurt in the 2018/19 season. He scored 17 goals and claimed 6 assists in 32 Bundesliga matches that season. He also brought his A game to the UEFA Europa League, netting 10 goals in 14 appearances.

Jovic is not the only striker linked with West Ham United this summer. Club World Cup breakout, Botafogo striker Igor Jesus, is also on their watchlist.
