Why Leicester City Youngster Jeremy Monga Wasn’t Wearing A Sponsor Logo On His Shirt

Leicester starlet Jeremy Monga made his Premier League debut as the Foxes lost 3-0 at home to Newcastle on Monday night – but why wasn’t Monga wearing a sponsor?

Monday’s Premier League tie between Leicester and Newcastle was a night to forget for most involved with Leicester City football club.

A Jacob Murphy Brace for the visitors inside ten minutes set the tone, before former Foxes hero Harvey Barnes grabbed a third to rub salt into Leicester’s wounds.

Newcastle kept their Champions League hunt alive while consigning Leicester to a ninth straight defeat in all competitions.

But there was one player in a blue shirt who caught the eye.

Substitute Jeremy Monga came onto the field in the 74th minute, wearing a strikingly different shirt to his teammates.

The main shirt sponsor on Monga’s kit was missing entirely, with just the Leicester and Adidas badges visible.

Why Wasn’t Jeremy Monga Wearing A Sponsor?

At 15 years and 271 days old, Monga became the second-youngest Premier League player in history.

Only Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri was younger on debut – at 15 years and 181 days.

And it’s for this reason that Monga wasn’t sporting the same sponsor as his teammates.

Premier League rules stipulate that no player under 18 can be used to promote gambling.

As Leicester’s main sponsor, BC.GAME, is an online gambling site which features a crypto casino, Monga was not allowed to wear a shirt displaying the sponsor logo.

Like many Premier League sides, Leicester’s youth teams wear different sponsors to the first XI for this reason.

Who Is Jeremy Monga?

While he may not be old enough to wear the same kit as his teammates, Monga has certainly impressed despite his age.

Manager Ruud van Nistelrooy said of the youngster: “He’s developing really well and you can see how good he is.

“I also mentioned the situation still as a 15-year-old, with school, and with the possibility to have him around the team, it’s limited.”

Born on 10 July 2009, Jeremy Monga is a product of the Leicester City youth academy.

An England U16 international, he has scored once in six appearances for his age group.

Primarily a left winger, he replaced Bilal El Khannouss in Monday’s loss to Newcastle to make his Premier League debut.
