The day will see the City Of York Stakes, which will be run as a Group One for the first time – with Rosallion looking to grab his first win of the season.
But the day’s feature is the Ebor Handicap at 3:35pm, where the Willie Mullins-trained Hipop De Loire will be hoping to improve on his fourth from last season.
However, if you like your stats – there are many Ebor Handicap trends against the likely favourite – so he might be one to leave out of the York Placepot on Saturday.
In order to collect on our York Placepot tips we’ll need to get a horse placed in ALL of the first SIX races.

How Does A Placepot Bet Work?
A Placepot bet is a wager with the horse racing betting sites that requires you to find a horse that will place in ALL of the first six races.
A placed horse will depend on the number of runners and also the race type.
You then select a horse (or horses) in each race that you think will be placed. With the bet only a winner if you manage to find a placed horse in ALL the six races.
As soon as one doesn’t place – your Placepot bet is a loser.
Placepot Places Explained
- 1-4 Runners – ONE PLACE (1st)
- 5-7 Runners – TWO PLACES (1st and 2nd)
- 8+ Runners – THREE PLACES (1st, 2nd & 3rd)
- 16+ Runners (Handicap Races) – FOUR PLACES (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th)
How Much Does A Placepot Bet Cost?
The minimum Placepot bet is £2 on-course and 50p online.
Then the total Placepot bet will depend how many horses you pick in each race. As the more you pick, the more perms you have and the higher the bet cost.
For example – if you had TWO horses in each race this is the total bets and cost.
2x2x2x2x2x2 = 64 bets
Then if your stake is 10p a line/bet. This will cost you £6.40 (64 bets)
How Much Can You Win On a Placepot Bet?
The Placepot winning are worked out by a dividend.
Meaning the more people that have horses placed in the first six races – the lesser the return.
Each track will have a betting pool (total money taken on Placepot bets) before the first race.
Then depending on how many winning tickets there are. The total pool is divided by the winning tickets – a bit like the lottery.
If you win the lottery with three other people, that week’s jackpot is divided by three. The Placepot is the same.
The Placepot dividend is always announced about 30 minutes after the sixth race and is always to a £1 stake.
Meaning if your winning stake is £2 – you will get double that Placepot dividend.
