The entire golf world has recently been consumed by rival golf leagues and Saudi billionaires, but there’s still a major championship to be played this weekend. On Thursday, the LIV Golf ambassadors and the loyal PGA Tour pros will tee it up side by side for the 2022 U.S. Open at The Country Club in Brookline, Mass.

We know you’ll want to have some action on the toughest test in golf, so let’s check out the betting favorite for the U.S. Open and what the top of the odds board looks like.

Rory McIlroy is the U.S. Open betting favorite, but Justin Thomas is right behind

Oddsmakers love a hot golfer, and there’s no hotter golfer on earth than Rory McIlroy. The Northern Irishman is coming off a spectacular performance in a win at the RBC Canadian Open — his second victory of the season — and he’s been on top of his game for two full months now. In his last five starts, McIlroy has finished second, fifth, eighth, 18th, and first. He’s also finished eighth or better in both majors this year.

Unsurprisingly, McIlroy tops the odds board ahead of the U.S. Open at 11-1. Justin Thomas, who dueled McIlroy all the way to the 72nd hole last weekend, is right below him at 12-1. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler (13-1) and World No. 2 Jon Rahm (13-1) are the only other players below 20-1 on the odds board.

Even though all three of these players behind McIlroy have won a major more recently, it’s the 2011 U.S. Open champ who’s been pegged as the betting favorite at The Country Club.

Full 2022 U.S. Open odds

In a stacked field at the year’s second major championship, 35 players come in with odds under 100-1. It’s interesting to see recent PGA Tour deserters Dustin Johnson (44-1), Bryson DeChambeau (130-1), and Phil Mickelson (220-1) in the field, but they aren’t getting much respect from the oddsmakers.

Tiger Woods, though, won’t be in the field for the 2022 U.S. Open, so the complete list of odds is more balanced than it was in the previous two majors. Check out that list below:
