Coming back from a bye week, NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver Stewart Friesen hopes he can sustain some of the momentum he garnered at Michigan International Speedway on June 7. Friesen snapped a 72-race winless skid and provided Halmar Friesen Racing, a single-machine operation, a postseason jolt. The team missed the playoffs the past two seasons.
Friesen benefited from late-race crashes that took out several top competitors. He finally won in triple overtime after Corey LaJoie rejected a chance to take the front row for the final restart. Friesen jumped at the chance and things finally fell into place.
“To have something go our way and capitalize on an opportunity is something we’re all proud of,” Friesen said, as reported by NASCAR.com. “It puts some wind in our sails as we go throughout the season.
“We’ve had some really fast trucks through the beginning of the part of the year, but had misfortune one way or another. Everybody was getting beat down really bad. (We were) working really hard, bringing fast stuff, and then not being able to put it all together.”
Corey Heim continues to dominate the series as the Truck Series enters Friday’s MillerTech Battery 200 at Pocono Raceway. With 605 points, Heim leads the drivers’ standings by 133 points over second-place Chandler Smith.
