A road racing ace, Jordan Taylor remains “eager” to attempt a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series challenge Saturday at Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Connecticut.
Taylor’s circuit debut provides Spire Motorsports with a unique entry.
Also known as Rodney Sandstorm, Taylor, 34, captured four IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Series championships and provides the team with experience at the seven-turn, 1.53-mile asphalt track. He will pilot the No. 7 Chevrolet and challenge Truck Series points leader Cory Heim (-115), who received the top sports-betting odds this week to claim the drivers’ championship, according to BetOnline Sportsbook.
The No. 7 team operates with rotating pilots this season and won with Cup Series regulars Kyle Busch (Atlanta) and Carson Hocevar (Kansas).
“I’m eager,” Taylor said in a statement. “I know it’s going to be tough jumping into the series mid-season, but I know I am joining one of the top teams.
“I just hope I can adapt to the truck quickly on the short weekend. Lime Rock Park is a track I know really well, but obviously all my experience around there is in much different types of cars, so I’m looking forward to the new challenge.”
Taylor previously competed in one Cup Series, a 2023 event at COTA. He started P4 and finished P24. He also competed in two Xfinity Series events in ‘23, placing 24th at Portland and 16th at Charlotte Roval.
A two-time Rolex 24 at Daytona titleholder, Taylor also visited Victory Lane following the 12 Hours of Sebring (20217 and ‘24) and Petit Le Mans (2014 and ‘18).
“Jordan Taylor’s body of work speaks for itself,” Spire co-owner Jeff Dickerson said. “His accomplishments at the global level are more than impressive so we’re obviously thrilled to have Jordan drive our (machine) this weekend.”
Since opening in 1957, Lime Rock Park has hosted a series of events, including the Trans-Am Series, IMSA SportsCar Championship’s Northeast Grand Prix, International Race of Champions, and the Rolex Sports Car Series. NASCAR’s K&N Pro Series East staged races from 1993-2010.
