NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series races featuring Corey Heim are becoming ho-hum. 

On Saturday at Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Connecticut, pole-sitter Heim led all 100 laps and outclassed his rivals on two late restarts, claiming the LiUNA! 150 during a historic outing. 

Heim’s dominating performance didn’t lead to much on-track action during the state’s first NASCAR National Series event. It proved to be a solid day of clean, road course racing as the 22-year-old visited Victory Lane for the fifth time this season and 16th time in his career. He has claimed the circuit’s past three road-course events. 

Since opening in 1957, Lime Rock Park has been without bleachers. Fans stand and sit on chairs and blankets on grass hills. 

Heim’s victory elevated him to third all-time in Truck Series wins, trailing Kyle Busch (67 wins) and Johnny Sauter (24). 

Saturday’s storyline went like this. Heim started at the front. He stayed in the lead throughout the first and second stages. He continued to pace the field until the end.  

Ho-hum.

Through two stages, Heim continued to pull away. During the 70th lap, the No. 11 Toyota pilot paced Riggs by 7.12 seconds and Taylor by 12.16 seconds. He earned his fifth consecutive second-stage win and remained in position to claim Saturday’s fastest-lap point …

Race officials decided to have three-minute non-competitive, stage-break pit stops. Heim survived the Stage 3 restart, as Matt Crafton slid into the grass, but the field remained green. Over the opening 10 laps, Heim opened up a .96-second lead. Ten laps later, the lead grew to 2.42 seconds. Then Matt Mills, racing for P24, made a mistake and slid off the track …

Some fans reacted to the event’s first caution period …

Heim didn’t rattle on the final restart. Some NASCAR insiders suggest Heim, if not for some bad luck, could have won 10 races before an extended break. This time late, the points leader continued his pursuit of one of the series’ top all-time campaigns. With three regular-season races remaining, and three playoff spots available, the Truck Series goes dark over the next four weeks, returning July 25 for a short-track event at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park. …
