NASCAR Xfinity Series BetRivers 200 Entry List: Dates, Event Times At Dover Motor Speedway

During back-to-back NASCAR Xfinity Series events, rookie Connor Zilisch battled international veteran Shane van Gisbergen for a road-course win. At Chicago Street Race on July 5, van Gisbergen moved his JR Motorsports teammate, allowing him to claim the event from the pole.

On Saturday at Sonoma Raceway, Zilisch showed he learned some lessons, outdueling the three-time Supercars titleholder and claiming his third circuit win this season.

“We did such an awesome job all weekend long, just executing,” Zilisch told CW after the race. “We made all the right adjustments, and here we are in victory lane. It feels good.”

With Zilisch leading on the last lap, van Gisbergen, 36, remain aggressive, but declined to push the 18-year-old out of the way and win by wrecking his teammate.

“Yeah … I didn’t want to,” van Gisbergen said. “Congrats to those guys, what an awesome race.

“I hope everyone enjoyed that. Yeah, I gave him a bump into (Turn) 7, wheel-hopped, and probably could have taken it, but I just waited. I didn’t want to do it like that. And then we just raced down the hill. But what an awesome race.

“I had a blast all day, really, really fun.”

Entering next Saturday’s race at Dover Motor Speedway, Zilisch moved up one spot in the drivers’ standings to No. 4, 69 points behind leader Justin Allgaier (686 points). Sam Mayer (627) ranks second, but has yet to visit Victory Lane.
