At the end of Saturday’s Stage 2 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, NASCAR Xfinity Series leader Justin Allgaier edged JR Motorsports’ teammate Connor Zilisch for the extra playoff point.
Zilisch rebounded to steal the Brickyard trophy.

Nearing the conclusion of the Pennzoil 250 and rain starting to fall, Allgaier paced the field, but was taken out by Kyle Larson with 14 laps to go. With the series points leader striking the wall at the iconic 2.5-mile asphalt oval, Zilisch went from P4 to the front and cruised to his third straight event title.
On the restart, Allgaier, who led a race-high 37 laps, and Larson raced side-by-side along Turns 1 and 2, but Larson clipped the No. 7 Chevrolet, sending the machine out of control. With Allgaier sidelined, Zilisch posted JR Motorsports’ milestone 100th win and climbed to within 21 points of Allgaier in the drivers’ standings.
“It doesn’t take much here, especially restarts, the way that everybody’s kind of packed up here,” Allgaier said, as reported by NASCAR.com. “Unfortunately, we got the worst end of the deal.”
Zilisch, who has five wins in 20 starts, appears to be getting the best of the circuit.
