NASCAR Xfinity Series Fans Respond To ‘Super’ Sam Mayer Claiming HyVee Perks 250 At Iowa Speedway

During the first stage of Saturday’s HyVee Perks 250 at Iowa Speedway, NASCAR Xfinity Series Connor Zilisch, to the surprise of a few, dominated. Until a few mistakes shuffled the rookie back into the field.

During the second stage, Taylor Gray moved through the field, posting plus-33 in positions. Until a poor pit stop forced him back in the pack.

Through most of Saturday’s event, Sam Mayer wasn’t much of a factor. Until the end.

Mayer paced pole-sitter Jesse Love on the restart with 11 laps remaining and cruised to his first win of the season – and Haas Factory Team’s initial trip to Victory Lane. Mayer, who finished P2 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway last weekend, earned back-to-back wins at the 0.875-mile oval. He topped Love by 3.289 seconds.

“This one is everything right here,” Mayer told CW Sports. “I can’t believe it. This one is one of the more special ones.”

Since Las Vegas, Mayer compiled the most points without having a win.
