NASCAR Cup Series Fans Respond To William Byron Saving Gas, Claiming Iowa Corn 350 Powered By Ethanol At Iowa Speedway

After making his last pit stop on Lap 206, NASCAR Cup Series driver William Byron managed the fuel – and the Iowa Corn 350 Powered by Ethanol field.

Earning his first win since the season-opening Daytona 500, Byron endured the other end of fuel mileage calculations after leading at Michigan and running third at Indianapolis. Both times the No. 24 Chevrolet ran out of gas.

Not Sunday at Iowa Speedway.

Byron drove the final 144 miles on the final tank of fuel, outdistancing runner-up Chase Briscoe over the final few laps. Brad Keselowski, who won both stages, earned a P3, followed by last year’s winner, Ryan Blaney, and Ryan Preece.

“I think I ran out right there,” Byron told USA, pointing to the machine. “That’s why I stopped.”

Since the Michigan mishap, Byron finished P37 at Atlanta and P40 at Chicago. He also placed P31 at Dover and P16 after falling from third at IMS.

“We’ve been through a lot this year,” Byron said. “It’s been tough on us, but it feels really good today to get a win.

“Luckily, the fuel was there at the end. We needed one to go our way and it did.”
