NASCAR Cup Series Cook Out 400 Entry List: Dates, Event Times At Richmond Raceway

Two days after signing a multi-year contract extension with Trackhouse Racing, Shane van Gisbergen provided the NASCAR Cup Series organization early bang for its buck.

The overwhelming favorite to capture the circuit’s rookie of the year honors, van Gisbergen, who earned his fourth win this season at Watkins Glen International on Sunday, will pilot the No. 88 Chevrolet “for years to come,” the team announced.

The 36-year-old New Zealand native not only captured the Go Bowling at The Glen title, he did it in dominating fashion, topping runner-up Christopher Bell by 11.116 seconds.

Along with his 16.567-second win at Mexico City, van Gisbergen registered the two largest victory margins in the NextGen era. The road-course ace also became the second pilot to post two 10-second-plus wins in one season since 2000.

Despite a No. 25 ranking in the drivers’ standings, 371 points behind pace-setter William Byron, van Gisbergen, who overcame a slow first half of the season mostly on oval tracks, compiled 22 playoff points, the third most in the series.
