NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver Layne Riggs shook with excitement after capturing the pole position for Saturday’s postseason-opening Sober or Slammer 200 race at Darlington Raceway.
To show his raw emotion at his “favorite track,” Riggs held up his shaking hand before the Fox Sports camera.
“Look, I’m trembling,” said Riggs, who turned a hot qualifying lap of 167.705 mph Friday. “This place is a rush to qualify. You’re only off the gas like a second.”
Posting his second pole of the season, Riggs also topped the practice field.
“I love this place,” said Riggs, who captured two of the circuit’s past five events.
Front Row Motorsports teammate Chandler Smith (167.659 mph) will join Riggs along the front row at the iconic 1.366-mile track. It was the organization’s first front-row sweep.

Corey Heim Enters Playoffs As Overwhelming Favorite
As the Truck Series’ 10-team postseason commences Saturday, Corey Heim remains the clear favorite to capture the drivers’ championship.
Heim posted seven wins, including three of the previous four events, and five pole positions en route to a regular-season title.
As consistent as the No. 11 Toyota team has been this season, collecting 14 top-10 finishes in 18 races, Heim understands wrecks and mechanical failures can even the field quickly. At Darlington, Heim’s best finish in four starts is P8, averaging a 20.5 finish. He qualified P3 Friday.
“I feel like our mindset is to prepare to the best of our ability in the same way that we have for most of the races this year and just to really hone in on everything, if not elevate everything, to make sure that we cannot have any failures or anything crazy like that,” Heim said via press release.
The 65 playoff points accumulated by @CoreyHeim_ are the most of any driver since the current format debuted in 2017.
