With all of the NASCAR Cup Series’ Round of 16 attention focused on the three-race sweep by Joe Gibbs Racing pilots, Ryan Blaney and Joey Logano, the two most recent circuit champions, are beginning to turn the spotlight back on Team Penske.
Blaney became the first driver to qualify for the Round of 8 with a win last Sunday at New Hampshire Motor Speedway and Logano earned a P4. As the top two qualifiers, the teammates occupied the front row.
Josh Berry, a Wood Brothers Racing driver with a technical alliance with Team Penske, finished second despite mid-race trouble. Berry, who was eliminated from the first round of the playoffs, challenged Blaney during the final laps.
After a middling regular season, Logano, the reigning champion, posted three consecutive top-five finishes.
Blaney (+370) became the new sports-betting favorite to claim his second drivers’ title in three seasons, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. Kyle Larson (+470), the 2021 titleholder, drew the second-best odds at +470. Logano (+1500) remains a long shot.

Goodyear Creates New Tire For Kansas Speedway
With right-side tires creating chaos during the night race at Bristol Motor Speedway on Sept. 13, Goodyear announced it will be releasing a new product in time for this weekend’s national series events at Kansas.
“Kansas presents a unique set of conditions for teams — known for its relatively smooth surface, multiple grooves and close finishes — but recent races have shown notable tire wear,” said Justin Fantozzi, Goodyear operations manager for global race tires, via press release. “For both series, new right-side tires are being introduced after undergoing construction changes to increase strategy options for the crew chiefs. This weekend, teams will need to balance grip with outright speed to maximize performance of these new Goodyear Racing Eagle tire setups.”
NASCAR tire testing appears endless.
