NASCAR Xfinity Series regular-season champion Connor Zilisch remains poised to pull double-duty at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Road Course, while eying a move to the top ranks next season.
Zilisch, who, along with Justin Allgaier, earned a trip to the Xfinity Series’ third round of the playoffs based on points, plans to compete in Friday’s Truck Series event.
The 19-year-old rookie has yet to compete at the 17-turn, 2.28-mile course and the extra laps could pay dividends. Zilisch competed in seven previous Truck races, including a P8 at Watkins Glen, piloting the No. 7 Chevrolet for Spire Motorsports.
“Putting a winner in the truck,” Spire posted on X (Twitter).
Zilisch compiled nine wins and 19 top-five finishes in 27 Xfinity circuit starts this season. He will drive full-time in the Cup Series with Trackhouse Racing next season.
“Cup racing has been the goal since joining with Chevrolet and Trackhouse and while I didn’t know it would come this soon, I feel like I’m ready,” Zilisch told Newsweek Sports. “I know the challenge that awaits entering the Cup Series as a full-time driver, but I feel that with the support of Trackhouse and Chevrolet, this is the right situation for me.”
