Eliminated from the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs following the first round, Shane van Gisbergen didn’t have a chance to race on a road course to boost his postseason chances.
The Charlotte Motor Speedway Road Course event came one round too late for the three-time Supercars champion to display his skills. FanDuel Sportsbook listed van Gisbergen (+100) as the sports-betting favorite to earn Sunday’s Bank of America ROVAL 400 title.
Van Gisbergen, who earned his first top-10 finish at an oval last weekend at Kansas Speedway, posted wins in the circuit’s past four road-course outings.

NASCAR Cup Series’ Bank of America ROVAL 400 Storylines
- After leading 221 of 267 laps during the regular-season win at Kansas, Kyle Larson paced the field for 126 laps in the 19 races since the May 11 race.
- Chase Briscoe, who earned a P4 at Kansas, remains the lone playoff pilot with top-10 finishes in all five postseason races. He is 21 points above the elimination line.
- Finishing up on two wheels, Zane Smith was not pleased with John Hunter Nemechek’s role in his collision. “He just drives through me and then I was sliding on the wall,” Smith said, as reported by NBCSports.com.
