With three races remaining in the NASCAR Cup Series campaign, Denny Hamlin’s quest for his first drivers’ championship may be gaining momentum, Cody Ware warned the non-playoff drivers should not be overlooked this weekend at Talladega Superspeedway.
During the summer race at Daytona International Speedway, Ware led 23 laps. The 29-year-old driver is confident he can utilize that setup at the 2.66-mile tri-oval track.
“In years past, I took a much more cautious approach to these races. But the last handful of times we’ve been to Daytona and Talladega, I’ve ramped up my aggression level without putting myself in bad spots,” Ware said, as reported by Athlon Sports. “I’ve got the confidence to just race hard, get up front, and stay up front.”
Reigning Cup Series champion Joey Logano (+1100) drew the top sports-betting odds to capture Sunday’s YellaWood 500, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
Ware was one of five drivers to earn the long-shot odds at +10000.

NASCAR Cup Series’ YellaWood 500 Storylines
- Is Larson beginning a run for his second Cup Series championship? He finished P2 to Hamlin last Sunday after winning a stage and leading 129 laps. Don’t underestimate the No. 5 Chevrolet, which enters the second of three Round of 8 events ranked No. 2 in the playoff standings, 35 points above the cutoff line.
- Christopher Bell placed third, which is becoming familiar for the No. 20 Toyota. The team posted its third top-three finish over the past three Las Vegas playoff outings. The third-ranked pilot is plus-20.
- Chase Briscoe continues to display his postseason consistency. The No. 19 Toyota team placed P4 at Las Vegas, marking its sixth top 10 in seven playoff starts. Ranked No. 4, Briscoe tops William Byron by 15 points for the final transfer spot.

YellaWood 500 Predictions and Picks
Here are our best NASCAR Cup Series bets for the YellaWood 500 at Talladega Superspeedway:
Ryan Blaney (+1200)
As the last-ranked playoff driver, Blaney enters Talladega 31 points below the elimination line. He’s won at the tri-oval before. Can the 2023 circuit champion save his season Sunday after placing last at Las Vegas?
William Byron (+1200)
Sitting 15 points below the cutoff line after Ty Dillon got in his way last Sunday, Byron needs a win this weekend. He could be at the right venue, considering he posted three top-five finishes and five top 10s in his past seven starts at Talladega.
Chase Elliott (+1200)
The 2020 Cup champion could use a little luck. With one win and four top 10s at Talladega since 2022, Elliott will be looking to rebound from his P18 last Sunday.
