NHL Trade Block: Injury-Riddled Vancouver Canucks Seek Young, Skilled Center

The Vancouver Canucks’ NHL roster needs a lift.

Losers of six of seven following Tuesday’s 3-1 loss to the host Colorado Avalanche, the Canucks continue to lack a top-six center to balance the bench. General manager Patrik Allvin reportedly remains open to discussing potential trade scenarios with his peers that could revamp the injury-plagued roster.

TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger reported forward Keifer Sherwood, Evander Kane and Teddy Blueger could be available for a “specific return.”

With Filip Chytil among a series of players sidelined with injuries, Elias Pettersson could use some help.

Vancouver Canucks Seek Center For Struggling Offense

Tuesday night, Karlsson scored his fifth goal of the season 2:55 into the first period, but that was the extent of the Canucks’ offensive output.

The Avalanche exposed the Canucks’ offensive vulnerabilities.

Opponents will continue to employ similar game plans.

A young center tops Allvin’s wish list and Sherwood appears to be his biggest asset.

Sherwood posted 12 goals among 16 points in 23 games. In the final season of a two-year contract, the 30-year-old journeyman established career highs in goals (19) and points (40) last season. He could provide a Stanley Cup contender with a veteran bottom-six presence.

Kane, 34, is also playing on an expiring contract. The rugged winger collected three goals and eight assists in 23 games. He was acquired from the Edmonton Oilers for a fourth-round draft pick last summer. He suffered an upper-body injury during  Tuesday’s loss.

Blueger, 31, remains hampered by a lower-body injury and has dressed for just two games this season. The veteran center is owed $1.8 million in the final season of his contract.

Entering Friday’s matchup against the visiting Utah Mammoth, the Canucks (10-14-3) rank seventh in the Pacific Division and 14th in the Western Conference.

Allvin has put out the “for sale” sign on the locker room door.

If the Canucks’ fortunes continue to fall before the trade deadline, would Allvin consider a deal for captain Quinn Hughes?
