Dustin Johnson has had a dominant year on and off the golf course in more ways than one. Johnson now has four PGA Tour victories in the unprecedented year of 2020, and he just added another major championship to his resume.

After his win at the 2020 Masters, Johnson has now racked up nearly $9 million in on-course earnings this year alone. That’s more than former NFL MVP Lamar Jackson has earned in his entire professional career.

Dustin Johnson just pocketed $2.07 million at The Masters

As it turns out, the winner of The Masters receives more than just a green jacket and a trophy. The Masters champion also receives a boatload of cash for their triumph at Augusta National Golf Club. $2.07 million to be exact.

That’s right, Dustin Johnson received a $2.07 million payday on Sunday after his historic victory at the 2020 Masters. Johnson finished the tournament with a final-round 68 to complete the lowest-scoring tournament in Masters history at 20-under par.

Johnson got his week started with a dominant 7-under 65 on Thursday to tie for the lead after one round. He followed that up with a mediocre 70 on Friday, but another 65 on moving day gave him a comfortable lead heading into the final round.

With all the pressure on him and the thoughts of his multiple blown 54-hole leads in majors swirling in his head, Johnson conquered his demons and fired a four-under final round to seal his second career major and hist first green jacket.

The $2.07 million was just an added bonus.

Johnson has now earned $8.95 million in 2020

Johnson’s Masters performance might’ve been his most impressive of the year, but his 2020 campaign has been dominant throughout.

Over the course of the year, Johnson has racked up four PGA Tour wins, 10 top-10 finishes, and just two missed cuts in 17 events played. He’s been indisputably the best golfer on the planet for months now, and it’s led to some incredible financial success.

After adding $2.07 million to the pot, Johnson has now earned $8.95 million in on-course winnings. And that doesn’t even include the $15 million grand prize he earned for winning the 2020 TOUR Championship.

This year has been the most lucrative for Johnson in terms of PGA Tour earnings, and there’ still a month and a half left.

Dustin Johnson is lapping NFL MVP Lamar Jackson in earnings

It’s no secret the top NFL players earn more than the top golfers on the PGA Tour. Johnson’s historic 2020 season has gifted him nearly $9 million in tournament winnings, but the top quarterbacks in the NFL still make upwards of $20 million per year regardless of their season-long performance.

But Johnson has been lapping former NFL MVP Lamar Jackson in earnings. Johnson has won $8.95 million in 2020 alone, whereas Jackson has totaled just $7.79 million over his three seasons in the NFL.

Jackson is due to sign a mega-contract worth over $100 million in the near future, but for now, Johnson can tell his children that golf can be a more prosperous career than football.
