Luka Doncic Trade Rumors: 1 West Team Could Steal Star With Historic Offer
One of the big topics of the NBA offseason will be Luka Doncic trade rumors. The Dallas Mavericks star couldn’t put his team on his back and bring them to the playoffs, even after the big Kyrie Irving trade at the trade deadline. Doncic also seemed withdrawn and sullen at the end of the season about the whole situation. Now, with the Utah Jazz poised to make a historic offer for the star, is a Luka Doncic trade possible?
Jazz involved in Luka Doncic Trade rumors

Since the Mavericks traded up to draft Luka Doncic third overall in the 2018 NBA Draft, and since then, he’s quickly become one of the best players in the league.
However, Mark Cuban and company have continuously failed to put a winning team around him. Yes, Doncic is a unique, ball-dominant player, but still, the lack of competent teammates has hamstrung the young Slovenian’s career.
The Mavs had a similar problem with Dirk Nowitzki. They eventually won an NBA championship, but that was largely because of Dirk’s seemingly infinite patience and loyalty.
Luka may not be built the same.
In the modern NBA, the superstars hold all the power, and if Doncic is so frustrated he wants out, the Mavericks will almost have to acquiesce.
If that worst-case scenario does happen in the 2023 NBA offseason, the one thing the Mavs have going for them is that there is a team “keeping an eye” on Doncic, per CBS Sports, that can offer Dallas a historic trade package.
Over the last year, former Boston Celtics great and current Utah Jazz executive Danny Ainge has stripped his current franchise down to the studs. He made an excellent Donovan Mitchell trade with the Cleveland Cavaliers and absolutely fleeced the Minnesota Timberwolves for Rudy Gobert.
If the Luka Doncic trade rumors are true, and the Jazz are ready to strike, they could offer the Mavs a massive package.
Currently, the Jazz’s draft capital war chest looks like this (all picks are first-round unless specified):
2023 draft picks:
- Jazz
- Timberwolves (unprotected)
- 76ers (unprotected)
2024 draft picks:
- Jazz (protected 1-10, or goes to Thunder)
2025 draft picks:
- Jazz
- Cavaliers (unprotected)
- Timberwolves (unprotected)
2026 draft picks:
- Jazz (plus potential Timberwolves pick swap)
- Jazz second-round
2027 draft picks:
- Jazz
- Cavaliers (unprotected)
- Lakers (protected 1-4)
- Timberwolves
2028 draft picks:
- Jazz (plus potential Cavaliers pick swap)
- Timberwolves (protected 1-4)
- Jazz second-round
The Jazz have nine additional first-round picks in the next six seasons, in addition to several tradeable picks of their own.
Utah also has some intriguing young players like Collin Sexton, Lauri Markkanen, and 2022-23 rookie Walker Kessler.
If the Mavericks get forced into a Luka Doncic trade this offseason, the package could be incredible for Dallas to start over with. Then, they’d just have to get another generational superstar like Luka Doncic.
