Dr. Patrick Staropoli Ready To Operate At Martinsville; Corey Heim Earns Top NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series’ Title Odds

The doctor is preparing to operate on the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. 

Dr. Patrick Staropoli, a retina surgeon, signed with Cook Racing Technologies to compete in select events. He will kick off the multi-race deal with a seat in the No. 84 Toyota at Martinsville Speedway on Friday night. 

A Harvard University graduate, Staropoli, 35, returned to stock car racing following a decade-long hiatus to finish P8 in an ARCA Menards Series event at Phoenix Raceway on March 7. 

Staropoli’s Truck Series appearance will be his first since 2016, when he placed 31st at Homestead-Miami Speedway. He is a native of Plantation, Florida. 

“Competing at the upper levels of stock car racing has always been a dream of mine, and I’m so honored to be able to combine my passion for medicine and motorsports,” Staropoli said via press release. “I’m looking forward to working with Bruce’s team throughout the season, and I can’t wait to kick it off at one of NASCAR’s most popular short tracks.”  

Staropoli will also compete part-time on the ARCA circuit and will drive next at Kansas Speedway on May 9. 

Entering Friday night’s Truck Series race, points leader Corey Heim (+180) remains the sports-betting favorite to capture the drivers’ championship, according to BetOnline Sportsbook.
