NASCAR Xfinity Series Kansas Lottery 300: Qualifying, Brandon Jones’ Pole Position, Lineup At Kansas Speedway

Following a week off, the NASCAR Xfinity Series returned Saturday to settle the second of three Round of 12 events, with a playoff pilot possibly securing a spot in the third round.

Independent driver Aric Almirola captured the series’ previous event at Bristol Motor Speedway on Sept. 12.

A goal for the 12 postseason drivers is to earn enough points to eclipse the 57-point marker over the cutoff line following Saturday to qualify for the Round of 8, joining regular-season champion Connor Zilisch, who was 82 points clear.

Brandon Jones on Saturday continued flexing his machine’s muscles at the 1.5-mile oval, registering a hot lap of 173.41mph to earn his third pole position over the past four seasons at the venue. Runner-up Taylor Gray finished 0.096 seconds behind Jones, who entered the race eight points above the cutoff line.

Zilisch, who established a rookie record of nine wins and compiled 15 consecutive top-five finishes, qualified seventh at 171.32 mph. With a top-five Saturday, he will snap Sam Ard’s 1983 circuit record.

Justin Allgaier (171.81 mph), who will start fifth, has collected six wins at 1.5-mile tracks, an active series high.

Ryan Sieg posted the fastest practice lap at 172.419 mph.
