Miami Open: Paula Badosa Withdraws, Alexandra Eala Advances To Quarterfinals

Fans of wildcard Filipina tennis player Alexandra Eala have learned that her Round of 16 match against Paula Badosa set to happen on Monday night primetime will not occur. Badosa has withdrawn from the tournament.
Eala’s dream run in the Miami Open continues. She will face the winner of tonight’s other match between Iga Swiatek and Elina Svitolina.
Tennis fans wanted to see how Eala would handle her third consecutive match against a top-tier player. She defeated Grand Slam champions in her last two rounds: Jelena Ostapenko and Madison Keys.
Alexandra Eala’s family were reportedly traveling to Miami to watch her play so they are expected to be in her box for the quarterfinal match which is at a time yet to be determined on Tuesday.
Paula Badosa’s Back Injury
Paula Badosa is a talented, fun, and passionate player. Her chronic back issue is discouraging for her and tennis fans. Though she experienced discomfort in her previous round, the Miami withdrawal was a surprise. She withdrew from the BNP Paribas Open before her first-round match.
Her back injury kept her out of the game for nearly two years. When she returned in 2024, she found her game and earned the WTA Comeback Player of the Year award.
Alexandra Eala’s Big Dreams
Eala is bursting onto the scene, but like her peers, she has worked hard at tennis for years. She trained at the Rafael Nadal Academy before graduating in 2021. She has a wonderful demeanor and outlook with Grand Slam wins as the ultimate goal. In the meantime, the left-handed 19-year-old remains in the mix at the Miami Open.
