NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Fans Respond To Layne Riggs Claiming MillerTech Battery 200 From Pole At Pocono Raceway

As usual, NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver Corey Heim appeared to have the machine to beat during Friday’s MillerTech Battery 200 at Pocono Raceway.

After claiming the second stage, Heim established an all-time record, claiming his 12th stage win this season. Pole-sitterLayne Riggs earned the first stage, but Heim remained in contention late into the race. On a restart with 19 rotations remaining, however, the No. 11 Toyota suffered a flat fire preparing to go green.

Riggs didn’t know what happened to the circuit points leader, but his focus turned to the controversial Carson Hocevar, the Cup Series regular whose own organization fined him for disparaging comments about the international event at Mexico City last weekend.

Hocevar assumed the lead, but was penalized for not being the “control” machine after Heim pitted. Riggs was awarded the lead and cruised to Victory Lane and a spot in the playoffs with four regular-season races remaining. Hocevar served his stop-and-go penalty and ended up P13.

“I really hate the 11 (Heim) fell out and not sure what the seven (Hocevar) was doing on the restart there, but made sure to take advantage of it,” Riggs said, as reported by NASCAR.com.

Riggs, 23, is a second-generation national series pilot. He claimed his first career pole position Friday and third career win.

“Hey, I’m a happy man right now,” Rigg said. “This is not what I had circled. Last year, we wrecked in practice, didn’t qualify and ran dead last all day. And today we were the best. It’s amazing.”
