As dominant as he has been on the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series circuit this season, there is an aspect Corey Heim has not been completely pleased with: his ability to close.
Series points leader Heim compiled four wins, including Friday’s event at Charlotte Motor Speedway, but, with a little luck, could have at least two more. Maybe three.
In the most recent win, Heim led 98 of 134 laps and capped the win by pulling away from runner-up Ross Chastain by 6.229 seconds, the largest margin of victory at the 1.5-mile quad oval. Chastain earned the Cup Series’ Coca-Cola 600 on Sunday night.
At 22 years old, Heim became the youngest pilot to reach the 15-win milestone. After sweeping both stages, Heim extended his lead in the drivers’ standings to 100 points over second-place Chandler Smith.
For Heim, a clean finish “just really checked all of the boxes,” he said, as reported by NASCAR.com. “It feels great. It feels like we’ve had a lot of opportunities to do that this year, really.”
Corey Heim wins the North Carolina Education Lottery 200 in a thrilling finish! With flawless driving and sheer grit, he takes a huge step forward in the NASCAR circuit. A night to remember!
