NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Weather Guard Truck Race: Qualifying Canceled, Daniel Hemric’s Pole Position, Lineup At Rainy Bristol Motor Speedway

Friday’s NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series qualifying session at Bristol Motor Speedway has been canceled because of rain. 

The Weather Guard Truck Race, scheduled for Friday night, could be threatened.  

Daniel Hemric earned the win at Martinsville Speedway during the circuit’s previous outing March 28. As such, he was slated to start on the pole, followed by Tyler Ankrum, Chandler Smith, Corey Heim and Jake Garcia.  

NASCAR officials established the field via performance metrics. 

The Weather Channel predicted a 90-percent chance of rain for Friday night. 

Truck circuit teams have wet-weather tires available, but they are generally used in damp conditions, not wet.

Can Tyler Ankrum Maintain Short-Track Momentum? 

During the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series’ first short-track event at Martinsville Speedway on March 28, Ankrum rallied from a P24 start and earned a runner-up finish behind winner Daniel Hemric.  

Entering Friday’s event at Bristol, the No. 18 Chevrolet driver will attempt to carry over his short-track momentum. During seven previous starts at the 0.533-mile track, Ankrum posted one top-five and three top-10s, including a P5 during a playoff outing last fall. 

“Bristol is a super fun track to run especially with the high banking,” Ankrum said via press release. “We have had a lot of success there in the past and it is always a track I have wanted to score a win at.”

Ankrum registered four top-10s during the circuit’s opening five events. He ranked sixth in the drivers’ standings, 65 points behind leader Heim.
