So much for the season-long slump by the reigning NASCAR Cup Series champion.

While surviving the attrition at Texas Motor Speedway on Sunday, Joey Logano earned his first win and top-five finish in 11 events. Logano, who led just seven of 271 laps, won in overtime after claiming the lead for good after passing Michael McDowell along the backstretch. He won by 0.346 seconds over runner-up Ross Chastain.

Clinching the title, Logano executed a near-flawless overtime restart.

Logano’s Team Penske’s teammate, Ryan Blaney, placed third after leading two rotations and falling back one spot on the final lap.

Logano earned his 37th career win after starting P27 Sunday.
