NASCAR Cup Series Grant Park 165: Qualifying, Lineup, Shane Van Gisbergen’s 2nd Chicago Street Race Pole Position

Shane van Gisbergen continues to flex his road-racing muscles.

After posting a hot qualifying lap of 88.338 mph at Chicago Street Race Saturday, van Gisbergen earned the pole position for Sunday’s Grant Park 165. Earlier in the day, van Gisbergen qualified first for the Xfinity Series’ The Loop 110.

The Cup Series rookie struggled during the first half of the season, but won at Mexico City and seeks his second win in four weeks. Michael McDowell (87.879 mph) will start on the outside of the front row.

Carson Hocevar (87.824) and Tyler Reddick (87.779) will comprise the second row at the 12-turn, 2.14-mile downtown track.

Corey Heim Fails To Qualify For Grant Park 165

NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series points leader Corey Heim threw out the first pitch Friday at Wrigley Field.

On Saturday at the Chicago Street Race, Heim offering to qualify for Sunday’s event was knocked out of the park.

Heim, who posted five wins and 11 top-10s in 15 Truck events this season, failed to qualify for his third Cup appearance this season.

Beat out by Katherine Legge (85.744 mph), Heim turned a hot lap of 85.616 in the Group 2 time trials. On the top stock-car circuit this season, Heim placed P13 at Kansas and P37 following a crash at Nashville.
