Navy Lt. Cmdr. Jesse Iwuji is preparing to return to his side hustle.

Scheduled to compete in his first NASCAR Xfinity Series event since the 2023 season-opener at Daytona International Speedway, Iwuji signed with DGM Racing to participate in Saturday’s Ag-Pro 300 at Talladega Superspeedway.

Preparing to pilot a patriotic paint-themed No. 91 Chevrolet, the 37-year-old military officer will participate in the National Memorial Day Parade in Washington, D.C.

“It’s amazing to get back at such a storied track like Talladega Superspeedway, where anything can happen,” Iwuji said via press release. “I’ve been looking forward to getting back behind the wheel, and I have stayed ready for when an opportunity would present itself.”

In 17 career Xfinity outings dating back to 2020, Iwuji’s career-best effort came during the fall event at Daytona, placing P11. His career average finish is 28.2. He also appeared in 16 Craftsman Truck Series events, registering a total average finish of 27.4.

Iwuji did not qualify for the Talladega race last spring.

Among the series regulars, Justin Allgaier (+240) enters the weekend as the sports-betting favorite to capture the circuit championship, according to BetOnline Sportsbook. Austin Hill (+400) ranks second and rookie Connor Zilisch (+475) third.
