The NFL is a pass-friendly league today, but it wasn’t always that way. In previous decades, designing an offense focused on running the ball was a much more common occurrence. That’s why any quarterback who was able to put up monster numbers then is almost more impressive than those who can do so today.

High yardage and completion totals are the norms for many quarterbacks now, but before it was standard, Dan Marino was one of the best pure passers to ever play the game. Let’s take a closer look at Dan Marino’s NFL career, his net worth, and what he’s doing now.

Dan Marino finished his career as one of the best QBs of all time

Drafted by the Miami Dolphins out of the University of Pittsburgh, Marino was part of an NFL draft class that included fellow Hall of Famers John Elway and Jim Kelly. You could argue that Marino’s accomplishments were just as impressive as either of those two in terms of raw numbers.

Marino played his entire career for the Dolphins — something that’s almost unheard of today. He led the Dolphins to one Super Bowl appearance, but he was never able to win a championship. Marino may just be the best QB to never win a Super Bowl, though he came close more than once. With the exception of a few poor seasons, he always seemed to have the Dolphins on the cusp of championship contention.

Marino finished his career with 420 touchdown passes and 61,361 passing yards. He was the 1984 NFL MVP as well as a nine-time All-Pro selection. For his high level of play, Marino was rewarded with the ultimate honor: induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

What is Dan Marino’s net worth?

Marino racked up more than $51 million on the field during his NFL career, but his net worth is actually lower than that. According to Celebrity Net Worth, Dan Marino’s net worth in 2023 is reportedly $50 million.

Aside from his NFL earnings, Marino also had plenty of endorsements. Marino was the spokesman for multiple companies including Nabisco, AutoNation, and Isotoner. He also had a successful broadcasting career, serving as an analyst for HBO’s Inside the NFL and the CBS NFL studio pre- and post-game shows.

One unfortunate financial deal for Marino involved a company called Digital Domain Media Group, founded by Titanic and Avatar director James Cameron. The company was responsible for the famed Tupac Shakur hologram at Coachella, and on the back of that excitement, Marino invested $14.5 million. Unfortunately, he lost $13.6 million of that investment when the company filed for bankruptcy.

So, what is Marino doing these days? According to the Miami Dolphins’ team website, Marino serves as a member of the team’s front office. His official title is “special advisor to the vice-chairman, president, and CEO.” Owner Stephen Ross named Marino to the position in 2014, and he has held it ever since.

Marino also still holds plenty of endorsements. Most notably, he’s a spokesperson for the weight-loss company Nutrisystem. He appears in ads for the company, much like he did during his playing days.

While he may not have the same role he once had in the game, it’s clear that Marino’s earning power is still considerable even though he’s been retired for many years.
