It’s official. The long-awaited rubber match between Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier is finally set for Aug. 15. In a few months, Miocic and Cormier will duel in the octagon for a third time to determine once and for all who the better UFC fighter is. But there will be more on the line than simple bragging rights when the two meet in August to finish the heavyweight trilogy. The finale between the two legends will define their careers forever.

Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier split their first 2 fights

Miocic and Cormier first met in the octagon in July of 2018. Cormier was the light heavyweight champ at the time, but he moved up a division to challenge Miocic for the heavyweight belt.

Cormier didn’t just beat Miocic that night. He dismantled the heavyweight champ, knocking him out in the first round. With the win, Cormier became a two-division champ and unseated Miocic as the best heavyweight fighter in the world.

However, Miocic got his revenge in August of 2019. The two faced off in a rematch for the heavyweight title, and Miocic tied up the series with a fourth-round TKO. Neither Miocic nor Cormier has stepped foot in the octagon since their second meeting.

Miocic retains the heavyweight belt today, but Cormier isn’t planning on letting him keep it for long. The two finally settled on a date to wrap up the thrilling heavyweight rivalry.

Miocic vs. Cormier 3 is officially set for Aug. 15

After months of wondering whether we’d see a rubber match, Miocic and Cormier finally scheduled their third fight for Aug. 15, 2020, Brett Okamoto of ESPN reported Tuesday.

At 38 and 41 years old, respectively, Miocic and Cormier could both feasibly retire after their much-anticipated rematch. Cormier originally wanted to retire before 40, but he put that plan on hold to settle his rivalry with Miocic.

It’s unclear where the event will take place, but at least we have a date to look forward to. It would make sense for the bout to take place in the U.S., but nothing is for sure with America still reeling from the COVID-19 pandemic.

UFC president Dana White has stopped at nothing to keep UFC fights running, so he will surely do everything in his power to see the Miocic vs. Cormier trilogy come to an end.

The winner will forever be known as the greatest heavyweight of their era

As much as both fighters want to win to prove they’re the better of the two heavyweights, there is something much bigger at stake when Aug. 15 comes around.

The winner of the Miocic vs. Cormier rubber match will be more than just the better fighter. They will be dubbed forever the greatest heavyweight UFC champion of their era.

“Biggest title fight in history of division, in my IMO. Lifetime bragging rights. Winner is the best heavyweight of his era. Loser is not. Doesn’t get bigger than that,” Okamoto tweeted Tuesday.

The August rubber match between Miocic and Cormier will define their careers for the rest of time. The victor will be able to claim they were the best at their craft during their UFC career. The loser will be in second place forever.
