Love them or hate them, you have to respect them as players. Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady and LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers have a combined 10 championships and are searching for more. Outside of them playing different sports, there is one major difference between the two superstars.

Tom Brady and LeBron James still going strong

It’s hard to imagine an NFL quarterback still playing at a high level at the age of 43. He isn’t putting up the huge numbers he has in the past, but he is showing he still is capable of doing so. Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady has his team at 4-2 and has the Bucs thinking Super Bowl for the first time in recent memory.

The six-time Super Bowl champion threw a couple of touchdown passes as Tampa Bay rattled off 38 straight points in a win over the previously unbeaten Green Bay Packers on Sunday. Brady has 14 touchdown passes in six games. He threw five in a Week 4 win over the Los Angeles Chargers.

LeBron James is coming off his fourth career NBA championship. He finished second in the MVP voting at the age of 35. In his 17th season in the league, James averaged 25.2 points per game and led the NBA in assists per game at 10.2. He is on pace to become the league’s all-time leading scorer when he retires.

Brady and James are both winners

Tom Brady has put together the best resume in the NFL. His six Super Bowl titles, three MVPs, 14 Pro Bowls are second to none. In his 20-year NFL career, Brady has also packed the stats sheet. He’s thrown for better than 4,000 yards in 11 of his seasons and has racked up better than 76,000 passing yards. Tack on 11,388 more for the postseason.

Brady has also collected 628 touchdown passes (playoffs included) in his career. His career record, including the postseason, is 253-77. Like Brady, LeBron James has quite the resume. During his 17 years in the NBA, he’s averaged 27.1 points per game. James is a four-time MVP and has been an NBA All-Star 16 times.

When the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Miami Heat in the 2020 NBA Finals, James secured the fourth championship of his career. He is already considered one of the all-time greats and he’s showing no signs of slowing down.

The big difference between Tom Brady and LeBron James

When they are playing their respective sports, Tom Brady and LeBron James have many similarities. The biggest difference is how they handle themselves away from the playing field. Brady is a “we” guy, while James is a “me” guy.

That difference showed up after James felt he was snubbed when he finished second to Giannis Antetokounmpo in the 2020 MVP voting. James said he was “pissed” about the result because he only got 16 first-place votes out of 101. The difference between James and Brady also was clear after James and the Lakers won the NBA title. In an Instagram post, James posted of himself with the late Kobe Bryant’s jersey writing, “Hope I’m (sic) made you proud” and not “Hope we made you proud.”

Brady, meanwhile, says all the right things. It’s always team first for Brady. He may sound like a broken record at times with his patented “we have to play better” phrase, but it’s clear Brady isn’t concerned with individual performance as much as the guy who calls himself King James.
