Former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is in talks with Turkish club Besiktas over their vacant manager position.
Ex-Red Devils forward Solskjaer, 51, was sacked as manager of his former club in 2021.
The Norwegian took over at Old Trafford in 2018, replacing Jose Mourinho on an interim basis after the Portuguese’s departure.
Solskjaer then signed a permanent, three-year deal at Manchester United in March 2019.
Under his stewardship, United finished second in the Premier League and reached the Europa League final.
However, he was sacked having not won a trophy with the club, at the end of a poor run of results.
In addition to United, Solskjaer has managed Cardiff City and had two stints at Molde in his native Norway.
Besiktas Keen On Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
Turkish Super Lig side Besiktas are currently sixth in the table.
They dismissed former manager Giovanni van Bronckhurst in November, and are yet to appoint a permanent successor to the Dutchman.
The club has confirmed they are in negotiations with Solskjaer for the vacant manager’s position.
In a statement, it said: “Our company has started negotiations with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for the position of Football A team technical director.”
Although the terminology is different, that role is the same as former boss Van Bronckhurst previously held.
As a manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has taken charge of 464 total fixtures.
He has won 251 of those, with 125 defeats at 88 draws. At Manchester United, his record was 92 wins from 168 matches.
In his playing days, Solskjaer spent 11 years at United. From 1996 to 2007 he scored 126 goals as part of Sir Alex Ferguson’s incredibly successful side.
Most memorably, he scored a last-second winner against Bayern Munich as United won the 1999 Champions League final as part of their famous treble-winning season.
If he does take the Besiktas job, it’s unlikely he’ll be in place for their next fixture.
The Istanbul club host Samsunspor on Saturday in Turkish Super Lig action.
