Son Heung-min Transfer News

Captain and the team’s longest-serving player, Son Heung-min, could reportedly leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer. He has supposedly discussed a summer exit with Spurs higher-ups.

The South Korean star, 32, has naturally emerged as one of the most sought-after players in the transfer market. Several clubs across Saudi Arabia, Germany, Scotland, Turkey, and South Korea are reportedly interested in signing the 2024/25 UEFA Europa League winner.

Below, SportsCasting has compiled all the prominent transfer news that has surfaced about Son in the last week.

Son Heung-min Transfer News: Saudi, German, Scottish, and Turkish Clubs Linked with Tottenham Captain

Four Saudi Pro League Clubs Are Interested in Spurs Captain Son Heung-min

According to Talksport, three Saudi Arabian clubs have registered interest in signing Tottenham Hotspur legend Son Heung-min. Al Ahli, Al Nassr, and Al Qadsiah are all monitoring the player, and they are prepared to pay around £34 million for the Premier League veteran. Spurs will reportedly not stand in his way if he wants to leave after the pre-season tour in South Korea.

Al Ahli are looking to add a marquee player to their ranks, and senior Saudi Pro League executives want to help the club out. Their backing comes after Al Ahli succeeded in winning the AFC Champions League last season.

The higher-ups in Saudi Arabia are reportedly ready to offer him a mega £25.6 million/season deal. They believe Son’s arrival will pave the way for a TV rights deal with a South Korean broadcaster.

Fanatik reports that Al Hilal, who are competing at the Club World Cup, are also in the running.

Fenerbahce Boss Jose Mourinho Has Held Talks With Son Heung-mi

According to transfer news reporter Yagiz Sabuncuoglu, Son Heung-min also has admirers in Turkey.

The most prominent manager in the league, Fenerbahce’s Jose Mourinho, reportedly wants to sign him this summer. Mourinho, of course, is all too familiar with Son, having coached him at Tottenham Hotspur from November 2019 to April 2021. Fenerbahce have stepped up their pursuit after losing Leroy Sane to Galatasaray.

Sabuncuoglu tweeted:

Jose Mourinho met with Heung-Min Son. The Korean star’s relations with Mourinho are at a very advanced level, and he is open to coming to Fenerbahce.”

Tottenham are open to letting Son leave for around £25 million. If Fenerbahce agree, the deal could be closed soon.

Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen Linked with Tottenham Star Son

Thanks to his spirited performances for Tottenham, Son Heung-min is still drawing interest from clubs in the top five European leagues. According to TalkSport, Bayer Leverkusen had an internal discussion about Son. Their interest in him, however, has cooled off since.

In the last week, Borussia Dortmund have reportedly joined the race for Son, with Fanatik crediting them with an interest. With the Bundesliga outfit currently competing in the Club World Cup, a transfer push is unlikely in the coming week or two.

Rangers and Seongnam Eyeing Tottenham Captain Son

Although details are sparse, Scottish Premiership side Rangers and South Korean outfit Seongnam have also been linked with Heung-min Son. However, considering he earns a whopping £190,000 gross per week in North London, it will be difficult for either club to afford him.

When Will Son Heung-min Leave Tottenham?

Tottenham Hotspur triggered Son Heung-min’s one-year transfer extension in February, tying him down until June 30, 2026. If he wants to leave on a free, he will have to wait until next summer.

However, if he wants to leave this summer itself, he is unlikely to do so before August 3. He has committed to play in the pre-season friendly against Newcastle in South Korea, and Spurs are unlikely to let this commercial opportunity pass. This clause complicates Son’s exit, as it ensures his future will not be resolved until the last few weeks of the summer transfer window.

Son, who helped Spurs end their 17-year trophy drought by winning the Europa League, joined from Bayer Leverkusen for around £22 million in 2015. He has since played 454 games for Tottenham, scoring 173 goals.
