AS Roma Man Angelino Linked with Crystal Palace Sunderland and Bournemouth

FA Cup winners Crystal Palace are reportedly interested in signing AS Roma defender Angelino this summer.

They could, however, face stiff competition for the player, as two other Premier League sides are interested in the Spaniard.

The Eagles were quick to table an offer for Angelino, but the Serie A side found it underwhelming.

Crystal Palace Fail With First Angelino Bid, Two Premier League Clubs Could Benefit

Italian club AS Roma find themselves in a bit of a financial bind. As a consequence of reckless spending and a trophyless campaign, they are at risk of violating Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules this summer. To avoid FFP sanctions, they need to generate funds through player sales before the end of June.

According to Italian media, Angelino is the first name on their list of expendables. His availability has generated quite a buzz in the transfer market, with multiple clubs, including three from the Premier League, tracking him.

As per Il Messaggero, Crystal Palace and Bournemouth are interested in Angelino, while TuttoMercatoWeb has credited Sunderland with an interest. Crystal Palace, who have seen Eberechi Eze become a transfer target for Tottenham Hotspur, have even submitted an offer. However, according to Il Messaggero, their €12 million (£10.2 million) offer fell short of expectations, leading to an immediate rejection.

Sunderland and Bournemouth Could Attempt to Sign Angelino

Under the supervision of new sporting director Florent Ghisolfi, Sunderland have joined the race for Angelino’s services. He is reportedly an admirer of Angelino, and there is a real possibility that an offer could arrive from Sunderland.

Bournemouth are also interested in bringing the former Manchester City man back to England. They have enquired about the 28-year-old, but are unlikely to offer more than what Crystal Palace did (£10.2 million). LaLiga side Atletico Madrid are also reportedly tracking Angelino.

Roma want to sell as soon as possible, which effectively plays into Crystal Palace and Co.’s hands. If no other offer arrives in time, Gian Piero Gasperini’s side could have to accept an offer in the region of £10 million.

Angelino’s Deal With Al Hilal Collapsed Earlier in June

Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal were the overwhelming favourites to sign Angelino from Roma earlier this summer. They had reportedly reached an agreement with Roma, offering €23 million (£19.6 million) guaranteed and €2 million (£1.7 million) in bonuses. The deal, however, fell through before the Club World Cup, and now, they have turned their attention to AC Milan’s Theo Hernandez.

Angelino, whose Roma contract runs out in June 2028, has played for Leipzig, PSV, Galatasaray, and Man City, among others. He moved to Roma on a permanent deal from RB Leipzig last summer. He played 51 games for the club last season, scoring 4 goals and claiming 6 assists.
