Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly zeroed in on Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze after losing Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United.
The North London club want to make Eze Thomas Frank’s statement signing. However, the transfer could prove to be rather costly, as Crystal Palace may ask them to trigger Eze’s £68 million release clause.
Man Utd Take the Lead in Bryan Mbeumo Transfer
According to English outlets, Man Utd have emerged as the runaway leaders in the race for Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo.
The Red Devils initially tabled a £55 million offer for the 25-year-old, but the Bees turned it down. Eager to finalise Mbeumo’s transfer, the Mancunians have placed a second bid, reportedly exceeding £60 million. The player reportedly wants to play for the Old Trafford club, which should make contract negotiations pretty straightforward.

Despite Mbeumo’s former coach, Thomas Frank, joining Tottenham, Man Utd have always been confident of beating Spurs to the punch. Until last weekend, the Lilywhites were still very much in the race for Mbeumo. However, as per The Guardian, United’s improved second bid has pushed them to drop out.

With Man Utd taking control of the Bryan Mbeumo saga, Tottenham Hotspur have turned their attention to Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze. According to The Sun’s Tom Barclay, Eze is open to moving to north London.
Signing Eze will not be a walk in the park, however, thanks to his release clause. Crystal Palace do not want to sell their talisman and have a contract with him until June 2027. So, there is a good chance that the Eagles will not settle for less than his £68 million release clause.

The England international enjoyed a stellar 2024/25 season, showing his worth across competitions. In the Premier League, he contributed to 16 goals (8 goals and 8 assists) in 34 games. He scored twice and claimed two assists in the Carabao Cup. And most importantly, he netted four times and claimed an assist in the FA Cup, helping Palace to their first-ever major trophy. The 26-year-old scored the only goal against Manchester City in the final.
Could Eberechi Eze Move to Tottenham?
Eberechi Eze has been at Crystal Palace since August 2020. Over the last five years, he has produced an abundance of eye-catching performances. He has impressed not only with his goals but also with his creativity and work rate.
Palace would hate to lose a player of such calibre, but as things stand, it seems like a real possibility. Eze has seemingly reached his ceiling at Crystal Palace, and a move to a bigger club seems like the obvious next step. Additionally, Tottenham will play in the UEFA Champions League in 2025/26, whereas Palace’s Europa League participation is still doubtful.

Lastly, there is the Son Heung-min factor. The South Korean forward is drawing attention from Saudi Arabia and Turkey, among others, and could opt for a change of scenery. If the right offer comes along, Tottenham will not stop Son from exploring a fresh chapter. With Son potentially on the move, Eze could get the opportunity to become the star pupil of Thomas Frank’s new-look Tottenham.
