Tyson Fury Retirement

Tyson Fury has once again come out of retirement, having announced that he will face Oleksandr Usyk in a trilogy fight next year.

Fury Announces Oleksandr Usyk Trilogy

Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury will face off in a trilogy fight at Wembley Stadium next year.

Fury announced his retirement from boxing after losing by unanimous decision to Usyk in December, but the 36-year-old has confirmed his intention to make a comeback in 2026.

The Gypsy King confirmed the news on his Instagram account on Thursday morning.

He posted an image of himself alongside Usyk, who has handed Fury the only two defeats of his career, with the caption confirming that they will fight for a third time on 18 April, 2026.

Their previous bouts were held in Saudi Arabia, however Fury, whose net worth is around £130m, is set to return to the United Kingdom this time, with Wembley tipped to be the venue.

This is, of course, according to the Gypsy King himself. Promoters are yet to confirm details for the fight, however Turki Alalshikh hinted at Fury’s return on Wednesday evening.

The chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority posted on X (formerly Twitter): “The ‘Gypsy King’ will be back!!!

“I talked with him, and I have his word to have him in Riyadh Season in 2026.

“We have a rabbit to hunt!”

Fury often referred to Usyk as a “rabbit” in the build-up to their last two title fights.

The trilogy bout may depend on the result of Usyk’s fight against Daniel Dubois later this month. Should the Ukrainian win, he will become a two-time undisputed heavyweight champion.

How Many Times Has Tyson Fury Come Out of Retirement?

Fury has retired and now come out of retirement a total of five times throughout his career.

The Gypsy King first retired from boxing in November 2013. It came after his scheduled fight against David Haye was cancelled for a second time.

He returned three months later though, defeating American Joey Abell in February 2014.

Fury’s second retirement, albeit only for a few hours, came in October 2016.

Having withdrawn from a heavyweight title rematch against Wladimir Klitschko for a second time due to mental health issues, Fury confirmed his retirement on social media.

Hours later, he backtracked on his decision, posting on Twitter: “You think you will get rid of the Gypsy King that easy!!! I’m here to stay.”

August 2017 was when the Gypsy King retired for a third time.

He posted on social media: “Been very blessed in my life & career achieve the upmost in boxing, was an epic journey along the way. Thanks to all the fans that supported & believed in me along the way. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did. THE END.”

He made his return to the ring in May 2018, defeating Sefer Seferi, having had his boxing licence reinstated earlier in the year after being investigated by the UK Anti-Doping Agency.

Fury retired for a fourth time in April 2022 but announced his return six months later and retired for a fifth time in January 2025 off the back of his second defeat to Usyk a month earlier.
