Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany has reportedly connected with Liverpool left-winger Luis Diaz over a video call.
This one-on-one interaction could prove decisive as the Bavarians push to prize the Colombian away from Anfield.
Liverpool are open to letting Diaz leave but are holding out for a higher fee. His contract with the Premier League champions expires on June 30, 2027.
Report: Vincent Kompany Video Calls Liverpool Star Luis Diaz
According to BILD (via @DaveOCKOP), Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany called up Luis Diaz to convince him to switch to Bavaria. The call reportedly proved to be fruitful, as Diaz gave Bayern the all-clear. He has also informed Liverpool of his decision to join Bayern.
Liverpool have long been aware of Diaz’s desire to leave Merseyside. Meanwhile, important figures at Bayern Munich are in favour of the transfer. They do not see Diaz as one for the future, but believe he would improve the team instantly. The two clubs are now in active negotiations, trying to agree on a transfer fee.

Kompany has reportedly used this video call trick in the past. Towards the end of June, he held a video call with Germany U21 international Nick Woltemade. Max Eberl and Christoph Freund were also on the call. According to reports, Kompany played a crucial role in persuading Woltemade to move to Bayern. The VfB Stuttgart man has reportedly agreed to join Bayern on a five-year deal, until June 2030.
Why Bayern Munich Want to Sign Luis Diaz
Vincent Kompany’s game plan relies heavily on the ability and athleticism of his wingers. At Bayern Munich, the team morphs into a 3-2-5 or 3-2-2-3while on the ball. With the inverted full-backs stepping inside, the wingers stay wide. When the full-backs rush forward, the wingers tuck into half-spaces, allowing the striker to attack the channel. Additionally, he asks his wingers to press aggressively after a turnover.
Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry are excellent on the flanks, but they both prefer to operate on the right. Additionally, both missed over 35% of available minutes due to injuries in the 2024/25 season.
Luis Diaz, meanwhile, is a natural left-winger, seemingly perfect for the role at Bayern Munich. He is one of most hardest-working footballers around, regularly leading the press and never hesitating to track back. He is excellent in one-on-one duels, which would allow the left-back to stretch his legs.
🚨 Liverpool have received €67.5m official bid from FC Bayern for Luis Diaz this week.
The club has rejected the proposal, it was turned down after #LFC already closed doors to approaches in June as @TheAthleticFC.

In 2024/25, Diaz averaged 4.05 progressive carries for Liverpool, outperforming Coman (2.97) and Gnabry (3.02). The 28-year-old also averaged 1.99 successful take-ons and 8.6 pressures in the final third, comfortably clearing the Bayern duo.
Liverpool are well aware of the quality Diaz possesses and how he could improve Bayern. As a result, they are holding out for a lofty fee after rejecting Bayern’s opening £58.6 million bid. They value the Premier League-winning winger at £87 million. They would invest the sum in signing a potential replacement for Diaz.
Barcelona first registered an interest in Diaz before Bayern joined the party. But now, the Bundesliga outfit are well ahead of the Blaugrana in the race for the Colombian.
