Fantasy Premier League is back for the 2025/26 season, so read on as we explain which chips are in play ahead of the new FPL campaign.
The new Fantasy Premier League season is finally upon us, and with managers now able to start forming their teams, we’re taking a look at the chips on offer in FPL this term.
There are a total of four different chips available to managers, each able to be used twice, once before the Gameweek 19 deadline on Tuesday, 30 December, and once after.
This means that players will have eight chips to play throughout the season.
Previously, only the Wildcard was available to use twice a season. This year, Bench Boost, Triple Captain and Free Hit are also available to use on two occasions, in each half of the campaign.
Despite only being introduced as a Mystery Chip last year, the Assistant Manager chip won’t come into play in Fantasy Premier League during the 2025/26 season.
Unused chips at the midway point cannot be carried into the second half of the season.
What Are The FPL Chips For 2025/26?
Wildcard
Perhaps the most well-known chip in FPL is the Wildcard.
The chip allows managers to make unlimited free transfers within their team’s budget without incurring any points hits when activated. Once played, the chip cannot be cancelled.
As has been the case for several years now, and as previously alluded to, managers have two Wildcards to use in 2025/26, one before the Gameweek 19 deadline and one after.
Wildcards are particularly useful when trying to navigate Blank and Double Gameweeks.
Bench Boost
When played, the Bench Boost allows your four bench players to accumulate points alongside your selected starting XI for a specific Gameweek on two occasions across the season.
The chip is handy when all 15 of your players have favourable fixtures.
Some tipsters suggest that using your first Bench Boost in the early stages of the campaign may be beneficial, as it negates the complexity involved in planning around it mid-season.
Triple Captain
The Triple Captain chip is rather self-explanatory. Instead of your captain scoring double points, when the chip is activated, their points tally will increase by triple.
In order to maximise the potential of this chip, many opt to use it on a high-scoring player during a Double Gameweek. Mohamed Salah, who has broken Cristiano Ronaldo’s FPL record, and Erling Haaland have been popular players to use the chip on in recent seasons.
Both Salah and Haaland start the campaign as the most expensive players in FPL, with the latter favoured among the best football betting sites in the UK to end the season as top goalscorer.
Free Hit
The Free Hit chip is similar to the Wildcard chip in the sense that you get unlimited free transfers without incurring any points hits. There is a catch, however.
In the Gameweek that follows, all transfers made using Free Hit will be reversed.
Like the Wildcard, this chip is very useful when there are Blank and Double Gameweeks.
