Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner has reiterated that a positive January transfer window would have a strong impact on the Eagles’ season.

Oliver Glasner Reiterates Crystal Palace Transfer Plea

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner has made another plea for January signings.

The Austrian has cut a frustrated figure at Selhurst Park over the last week, seemingly blaming their recent defeats on the club’s lack of movement during the summer transfer window.

As a result, Oliver Glasner sent a transfer message to the Palace board following his side’s 2-1 defeat by Strasbourg last week and doubled down in his press conference following their loss to Manchester United on Sunday.

In a more measured response this time around, he once again highlighted the importance of adding both quality and depth to their squad ahead of the upcoming January transfer window.

“It would make it easier [new signings], especially for the players. We have some players who have played every single minute in all competitions.

“I will sleep well if the club buys no players. I will sleep well if the club buys five players.

“I think the chance of playing a fantastic season increases if we add one or two players with the right profile in the right positions.”

Questioned whether he’d spoken to Eagles chairman Steve Parish about the lack of transfers in the summer, Glasner said: “Summer has gone so we can’t talk about the summer again.

“We speak very often about many things but now the focus is on the team. We have to prepare the team, watch Burnley and prepare our players so that’s more important right now.”

He continued, touching on whether his future at the club depends on investment in January.

“No. I think that’s the wrong view on it. It’s my advice for Crystal Palace, how we can progress and make a step forward.

“No player is here because of Oliver Glasner so I would have the same advice for Crystal Palace if I leave straight after the press conference. I would tell them the same things.

“With Marc Guehi everybody said I threatened to step back – completely wrong. I just said if you sell Marc Guehi and we don’t have the right replacement we could struggle.

“If you are fine with this for Crystal Palace, not for Oliver Glasner – sell him. If you don’t want to have this situation you have to keep him then the chairman decides that Marc stays.”

Guehi is expected to depart in the summer when his contract expires, with a whole host of clubs interested.

According to some Marc Guehi Real Madrid transfer reports, the Spanish giants are one of the favourites to land the England defender.

AFCON-Bound Ismaila Sarr Ruled Out

Glasner also revealed that Ismaila Sarr will miss their fixtures against Burnley and Fulham.

The Senegalese winger, who is due to link up with his national team for the Africa Cup of Nations on December 15, was withdrawn through injury after 38 minutes against United on Sunday.

“It doesn’t look that bad but he will definitely miss both games this week.

“There is a hope that he could return before AFCON but we have to do further assessments and see how the next days are going.”

Should he return prior to travelling to Morocco with Senegal, he could feature against Shelbourne in the Conference League, as well as against Manchester City in the Premier League.

Sarr joins Chieck Doucoure, Rio Cardines and Caleb Kporha on the sidelines, while both Borna Sosa and Chadi Riad remain major doubts for the Eagles’ upcoming matches.
