Thomas Frank’s woes at Tottenham have deepened with Ben Davies the latest player to face a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
The left-back will undergo an operation on a broken ankle after he was carried off on a stretcher following the 2-1 defeat against West Ham at the weekend.
Tottenham Confirm Ben Davies Injury
A statement released by the club read: “We can confirm that Ben Davies will undergo surgery today (Monday 19 January) for a fracture of his left ankle.
“The Wales international defender suffered the injury during Saturday’s Premier League fixture against West Ham United.
“Following the surgery, Ben will commence his rehabilitation with our medical staff.”
His injury will also be a significant blow for Wales as Davies will miss their World Cup play-off match against Bosnia in March.
Davies’ injury is just the latest setback for Frank, who appears on borrowed time at Spurs.
The Danish manager is the heavy favourite in the Premier League sack race, and has seemingly lost the fans and the dressing room following the defeat against their London rivals.
Frank took charge of training on Monday and will be in the dugout for the visit of Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Tuesday, but another defeat will surely end his short tenure.
While results have been far from good enough, Frank has had to endure a lengthy injury list, which includes the likes of James Maddison, Rodrigo Bentacur, Joao Palhinha, Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison.
Transfer Decisions At Tottenham
Tottenham chiefs face an intriguing decision over their transfer policy this month, particularly in the wake of the injuries and Frank’s expected departure.
They’ve already signed Conor Gallagher, while Liverpool’s Curtis Jones remains a target.
However, they would be reluctant to provide Frank with anymore cash at this stage, given the fact that his position is appearing untenable.
If and when the Dane does get the axe, attention will turn to his replacement, with Oliver Glasner the current favourite on a long-term basis.
Club chiefs may want to look for an interim boss until the end of the season, so they can weigh up more potential options. Ryan Mason could be a short-term option after his sacking at West Brom.
