West Ham can sack boss Nuno Espirito Santo without paying him compensation if he fails to keep them in the Premier League.
Nuno replaced Graham Potter at the end of September, tasked with keeping the club in the top flight.
He came under heavy pressure as the Hammers slipped into the bottom three, including a 3-0 defeat away at rock-bottom Wolves.
His side have shown signs of life in recent weeks, which included back-to-back victories at Tottenham and against Sunderland before blowing a two-goal lead at Chelsea.
They currently sit six points adrift of safety and are the third favourites in the Premier League relegation odds.
Nuno Contract Clause Revealed
According to The Athletic, West Ham can sack Nuno in the summer without having to pay him off for the remainder of his three-year deal if they drop into the Championship.
West Ham haven’t played in the second tier since the 2011/12 campaign, when they secured promotion via the playoffs.
The board have backed their manager in the January transfer window, bringing in four senior players, including £50m worth of forwards.
Bolstering a defence that has the worst record in the Premier League this season remained a key priority, and the club secured a deadline day deal for Chelsea’s Axel Disasi on loan.
They’ve also dropped 18 points from winning positions this season, and they’ll hope Disasi’s arrival can help add stability at the back.
The form and backing of the West Ham board mean Nuno’s odds in the Premier League sack race have drifted massively, with Thomas Frank the current favourite for the axe.
West Ham Sell Talent On Deadline Day
Lucas Paqueta was the most significant sale during the January transfer window after he angled a move back to Brazil with Flamengo.
They also allowed academy defender Emeka Adiele to exit on a permanent deal with FC Utrecht.
Adiele was the subject of late interest from Juventus, but the 18-year-old left-back has opted to join the Dutch side.
Ediele had a contract until the end of the season, but has turned down the opportunity to extend his stay with the Hammers.
In other outgoings, Luis Guilherme signed for Sporting Lisbon, and James Ward-Prowse finally ended his West Ham nightmare by agreeing a loan deal with Burnley.
He was an unused substitute in the 3-0 home defeat against Sunderland on Monday night, a result that left them on a run of 15 matches without victory.
