Southampton’s Adam Lallana has announced his retirement from football at the age of 37.
The former Liverpool and England midfielder played 34 times for his country.
A graduate of Southampton’s Staplewood academy, he joined Liverpool in 2014 for £25 million.
Lallana went on to win both the Premier League and Champions League at Anfield.
He made his senior Southampton debut in 2006, aged 18, playing more than 250 games for the Saints as they climbed from League One back to the Premier League.
He was club captain when he signed for Liverpool, also featuring at the 2014 World Cup that summer.
Following Liverpool’s 2020 title, Lallana joined Brighton before a return to St Mary’s in 2024.
But an injury-plagued season saw him start just five games last term as Southampton were relegated from the Premier League.

Adam Lallana Retirement Confirmed
In a post on his social media, Lallana talked of his pride at representing Southampton.
He said: “As I call time on my playing career, I do so with an overwhelming sense of gratitude and pride.
“Southampton… the place where it all started, and fittingly where it ends. It’s the club I ultimately owe everything to.”
Such is Lallana’s affinity with the Saints that some had even tipped him to become the next Southampton manager before the club appointed Will Still.
“I’m proud of the playing career I’ve had and have no regrets about any of it,” added Lallana.
“I embrace all the highs and all the lows as they’ve shaped me into who I am.
“To everyone who made the journey so special, the staff at each club and organisation, the managers and coaches, my teammates, and of course the supporters — thank you.
“But most of all, to my own team… my family. My wife Emily, our amazing sons, my mum, dad and sister, thank you for putting up with me and being in my corner through it all.
“I’m excited for whatever the future brings.”
