Former four-weight world champion Adrien Broner has announced his shock return to the boxing ring.
Broner officially retired from the sport after defeat to Blair Cobbs last year, but has announced he is making a retirement U-turn at 36-years-old.
Adrien Broner Makes Retirement U-Turn With Boxing Return Imminent
Former four-weight world champion boxer Adrien Broner has announced his shock return to the ring on social media.
The American retired in 2024 after defeat to Blair Cobbs last June. However, the 36-year-old has now confirmed that he will make a sensational return to the ring and make a total retirement U-turn.
Broner is a 42 fight veteran now, boasting a record of 35-5-1 (1 NC). Of these 35 wins, 25 have come via knockout while only 11 have come via decision. Of his five career defeats, Broner has never been stopped either.
Now, it looks like ‘The Problem’ could return as early as November this year, if not in early 2026. It remains to be seen if Broner is true to his word or not, or whether his recent announcement is purely to keep his name in people’s mouths.
During his peak, Broner won seven world title fights across four weight division. He was also defeated in two further world title fights as well as being in plenty of other big match-ups against esteemed names in the sport.
Broner was once ranked amongst the best fighters in the pound-for-pound rankings, but that was a long time ago now. Boxing fans will certainly get excited if Broner does return to action, but that’s a big if.
Adrien Broner has said he’s ready to dedicate the next "3–5 years of his life" to the sport of boxing 🥊

Adrian Broner Announces Return and Promises 3-5 Years Of Dedication
Although a lot of fans will feel Adrien Broner’s shock retirement U-turn mightn’t have any substance, the American has assured fans that he means it and is willing to dedicate his life to the sport of boxing once again.
Broner took to Instagram on Tuesday evening (August 5) to announce his shock comeback to the ring.
The 36-year-old posted a story on his profile @adrienbroner where he makes it abundantly clear that he will make a comeback and get back to the top of the sport once again.
“Man I’m bout to give my life to boxing for the next 3-5 years. If you with me, I love you. If you not, f*** you 🆎“ said the former four-weight world champion on his Instagram story.
Time will tell whether Broner is true to his word, or if indeed he will ever lace up a pair of boxing gloves professionally again.
Who Will Adrian Broner Fight On His Return?
If Adrien Broner is true to his word and actually does make a shock return to the ring, there will be a queue of world class fighters looking to face the former four-weight world champion.
At the end of the day, Broner is still a huge name, despite being well past his best at 36-years-old. That being said, several bonafide world champions would gladly face Broner in the hope of claiming a huge scalp against the American.
If Broner does return to the ring in 2026, boxing betting sites will have him as a huge underdog against any fighters remotely at world level.
Broner lost his last fight in June 2024 to Blair Cobbs, who himself is no world beater. If ‘AB’ gets a big fight against a world class operator, he would be seen as a fairly big underdog, that’s for sure.
There has been talk that Broner could make a shock return as early as November this year, perhaps on the David Benavidez vs Anthony Yarde undercard in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Anthony Yarde’s next fight against Benavidez headlines on November 22 in Saudi for the WBC World Light-Heavyweight Title. There have been rumours that Broner’s return could come on that card against Rolly Romero.
Romero beat Ryan Garcia as a huge underdog in his last fight, and could be granted the Broner money-fight as a reward. Despite being no world beater himself, Romero would be an overwhelming favourite to defeat Broner with relative ease.
